Here are a few different reasons why moisturizing your skin is so important:

Helps Fight Wrinkles: Moisturizers are formulated with legit special powers. They have different ways of trapping water in the skin; “Moisturizers can’t prevent wrinkles, but they trap water in the skin, temporarily masking tiny lines and creases”. Using a moisturizer from a young age can lessen the appearance of wrinkles as your skin matures while helping to keep your skin glowing and youthful. Those of you with oily skin might want to consider using hypoallergenic.

Keeps Skin Balanced and Healthy: Using the correct kind of moisturizer can be a huge help to the way that your skin looks and feels. The biggest thing about choosing the correct moisturizer is choosing one that fits your skin type. Don’t worry; there’s an entire section all about understanding your skin type later on in this article.

Ingredient List of the Water Bank Cream & What They Mean

A common tactic when reviewing skincare products is to decipher what makes the products stand out from the competition. With the Water Bank Cream, it’s pretty evident what makes it stand out, and that’s its ingredients. Laneige is typically praised for its plant-based products, and their most prized ingredient found throughout many different products is the Green Mineral Water. Along with the Green Mineral Water, you’ll be able to find ingredients like Humectants, Silicones, and Glycerin. These ingredients play a pivotal role in why and how this cream has such a tremendous effect on the skin. Let’s take a deeper look at each of the abovementioned ingredients:

Green Mineral Water

The green mineral water provides users with moisturized skin and instantly absorbs into the skin, which is essentially what gives that soft and nourished look at the end of the application.

This hydration-boosting mineral water is extracted from kale, watercress, and beet. Kale itself is packed with nutrients that will positively affect one's skin. “Packed with Vitamins A, B, C, and K . . . the leafy green tightens pores, reduces dark circles, promotes collagen production, increases cell turnover, prevents free-radical damage, and detoxifies the skin.” From just that tiny ingredient that makes up the green mineral water, it’s pretty easy to understand why it has such deep hydration properties.

Watercress, another ingredient found in the green mineral water, is also filled with Vitamins that are amazing for the skin. “Watercress can help STOP and prevent the breakdown of collagen and elastin and lead to more production of collagen leading to younger, healthier and more elastic skin.” One Vitamin that skin experts strongly recommend included in your skincare routine is Vitamin C. Although the Water Bank Moisture Cream doesn’t explicitly state that it has Vitamin C, high amounts can be found in the green mineral water. Both the watercress and beet ingredients are packed with Vitamin C, especially the beets. Some “consider beets to be good for the skin, even suggesting that they can protect from signs of aging, such as wrinkles.”

The green mineral water seems to be an outstanding cocktail of vegetable extract ingredients from various vegetables that are focused on creating a healthy skin texture. These essential minerals are generally what make this moisturizer such a unique product, leaving one's face with a sensational feeling.

Silicones

Silicones are a make or break when it comes to skincare products. They can sometimes actually cause more harm than good, which is unfortunate. This product seems to be at a low enough dosage that they are more beneficial than harmful, but let’s look into what’s up with silicones and why they could be potentially harmful.

First off, silicones are derived from natural ingredients, which is excellent, but unfortunately, those natural ingredients need to go through a long chemical process to gain that silky silicone texture. The primary purpose of adding silicones to a moisturizing cream is to provide wearers with that velvety feeling as the moisturizer is rubbed in. They actually have the power to fill in fine lines and improve skin texture and smoothness overall.

With that in mind, many believe that the benefits of Silicones are primarily superficial. Giving great results that will quickly fade away until the product is continuously applied. “While silicone-filled serums and moisturizers might make your face look and feel nice at the moment, they don’t contribute to the long-term health and improvement of your skin.” Essentially saying that once the product has worn off during the day or washed off at night, the benefits also take a hit.

The silicones may make many products a make or break. But are, other ingredients packed in this skin cream will help to overpower the negatives of this silicone. Hopefully, making its sole purpose of giving that velvety feeling as it’s rubbed into the skin. While also providing deep hydration, even if it’s just for a short time, the other ingredients will most likely pick up the slack.

Humectants

The Water Bank Moisture Cream also contains a couple of different humectants aimed at hydrating the skin. Humectants are found in a large variety of different skincare products. For a good reason, “A humectant is a common moisturizing agent found in lotions, shampoos, and other beauty products used for your hair and skin.” The remarkable thing about humectants is that they help the skin to retain water, giving a deep hydration feel. Glycerin is a considerable addition to doing exactly that; “Not only does glycerin hydrate the skin, but it draws moisture from the skin’s inner layers up to the epidermis, making the skin plumper and restoring a youthful look.” This again could be another ingredient that will help to overpower the opposing sides of the silicones, making up for any lost moisture throughout the day.

Another humectant found in this moisturizing cream is Butylene Glycol which again is a humectant and has a particular spot in keeping the skin moisturized. Butylene Glycol is focused more on the surface of the cells; “Butylene Glycol works to condition skin and hair by coating the surface of your cells.” Time and time again, it’s been said that if you can’t read it, you should use it, but in this case, that reference doesn’t apply. Overall, the humectant is safe for use in skincare products, and there haven’t been signs of any significant skin irritation.

Synthetic Fragrance

Honestly, to read that synthetic fragrances were used in this product was a bit of a letdown. Although the product is packed with many great ingredients, synthetic fragrances bring down its rating quite a bit. Dr. Jaliman says, “Having a synthetic fragrance as an ingredient usually defeats the purpose of a skincare product as it creates a counterintuitive risk of irritation.” So watch out for that on the label of any skincare products that you purchase.

Think about it, though, there is a large variety of skincare products that use synthetic fragrances. If you’ve never had any symptoms like; redness, itching, or burning from any other skincare products, you might not be sensitive to the additive. This probably isn’t the best product for you if you have, as it could irritate and make any current skin conditions worse.

Blue Hyaluronic Acid

Saved the best for last, Hyaluronic acid has to be one of the essential ingredients in any moisturizer. This ingredient will have your skin absolutely glowing with its intense deep hydration powers. Laneige, on the other hand, has one-upped the regular old Hyaluronic Acid; “We took regular hyaluronic acid and amplified its hydration power through a unique double fermentation process with Fucoidan, a moisturizing agent derived from deep sea algae.” Oooolala… What a delicious combination they’ve provided.

Deep-Sea Algae offers a variety of skin enhancements on its own; “The ingredient works to soothe the skin and has UV-absorbing and amino acid properties that help with brightening, hydrating, moisturizing and delivering anti-aging benefits.”  That alone sounds like an essential ingredient, but pair it with hyaluronic acid, and Woah, you’ve got somethin’ special.

Hyaluronic Acid provides a bit of a different effect, and it just provides room for a feeling of deeper hydration to the skin. Like the humectants, this ingredient works to keep water in the skin, but in a different way. Hyaluronic Acid actually “helps to bind water to collagen, trapping it in the skin, so that the skin can appear plumper, dewier, and more hydrated.” Yeah, so that’s precisely why this ingredient was saved for last.

Even though there is one ingredient included in this list that may cause irritation, the others surely make up for it. With that in mind, though, if you’ve found that synthetic fragrances bother your skin, this isn’t the product for you. As for the silicones, though, take it as an ingredient to simply add the velvety feeling as the product is absorbed into the skin. The other ingredients will make up for the loss of that moisturization as time goes on.
