Can Eye Creams Reverse the Signs of Aging?
Most eye creams on the market contain the same ingredients as a regular face moisturizer, and none of them contain special ingredients for the skin around the eyes. Most are water-based, so this liquid is usually the first ingredient on their list. Many creams also contain humectants that help draw water into the skin surface—glycerin is one of them.
Eye creams also include occlusives like petrolatum or dimethicone, as these keep water from evaporating from the skin. Similarly, these formulations contain emollients to make the skin feel smooth and silky. (This adds aesthetic value to the product because it dictates how the product feels.) In addition, these labs add emulsifiers that keep the water and the oil components from separating.
Did you know all water-based products require a preservative to prevent the overgrowth of mold and bacteria? Not only that, but these manufacturers also add thickeners because customers expect these to be thicker than a facial moisturizer. They also add a marketing ingredient to enhance sales and most add fragrances, although these have fallen from grace and many are skipping them these days.
